The puppies are here!

After an all-night vigil to watch for labor to begin, Joy began to push about 6 am. At 6:40 her first male puppy was born. And what an adorable little guy! He was very mobile and scooted all around while his little sister was born 25 minutes later. She is quite a chunk! And the girl can eat. Only 20 minutes after that, another girl was born, smaller than her brother and sister, but with all the energy of her brother, and the appetite of her sister. We knew to expect at least one more puppy and at just before 8 am we got our third girl. She likes to roll. Oh, and eat. Sensing a theme?

We all waited anxiously to see if that mystery fifth puppy was really in there. And not wanting to disappoint, Joy produced a super cute second boy at 8:35!

Counting the days

Today Joy is 3 days from being due. This nine weeks has traveled by very quickly. And I realize that when it comes to reproduction, dogs have it pretty easy. Yes, they carry litters and not babies, but she's not been sick, although she has had weird cravings like baby doll shoes. Nine weeks is obviously much shorter than nine months. And finally, she's been quite pampered by every member of the family, especially now that the puppies are visibly moving around in there. We all sat around Joy last night at bedtime and took turns feeling the little guys wiggle and kick.

Speaking of the puppies! We found out this week that we are having at least four, but there may be a fifth puppy hiding out in there. So that means that at least 3 of you who are interested in puppies will be able to buy one in a couple months. Of course, as of now we don't know color or sex, but we do know they are going to be awesome dogs!

It's a go!

Joy is "with puppies" and we are expecting a litter somewhere around May 11th.

She has been very sweet (as usual) but also pretty hungry the last few days and getting even more rest than before. Which is hard to believe because Joy likes her sleep. That's probably why she fits in so well here!


The girls are quite content to grab a piece of carpet right along side her.

The Big Day

Today Joy and her new friend CH Kaylens King Coal met and they liked each other from the start.

If all went as planned, we are counting down about 9 weeks from now for the birth of some very cute puppies.

She's in season!

A bit later than expected, but our beautiful Joy is finally there. She went in for a progesterone test yesterday and will go back either today or tomorrow and we will pinpoint her best day for breeding.
